About

Jodie was born on the North West Coast of Tasmania where she grew up with the ocean at her front door. She now resides in beautiful Howrah, Hobart in Southern Tasmania with her husband and mini groodle, Marli.

She wasn’t always an artist and had admired “artists” for a long time. After a significant life changing event, Jodie took a leap of faith. Everything shifted, changed and opened up and a new way of experiencing, sharing and being in the world was born for her.

Jodie has experimented with many different mediums. Oil paint, however, has become her favourite medium for experimentation and creativity using mainly palette knives for mark making.

She plays with light, shadow and colour in her paintings and particularly loves Tasmanian landscapes, flowers and animals.

Jodie is blown away when her art evokes an emotional response from her clients.

Artist Statement

My desire is to make paintings that relate to my emotional and intuitive response to the Tasmanian landscape in which I feel so deeply rooted, an almost spiritual connection with these wild places.

The interplay of sunlight and shadows in landscapes mesmerise me. It is visual poetry.

I translate beautiful Tasmanian land and ocean scapes onto canvas using oil paints and large palette knives. I reflect the stunning complexity of the natural world with simplified mark making and my paintings are a snapshot for the rest of the world to enjoy what we Tasmanians have on our doorstep every.

My goal is to inspire those who see my work to look more carefully at the world around them, to discover beauty in unusual places.

Whilst painting, everything else falls away, and I am totally present in the now, this beautiful moment suspended outside of time.
